With her heart in Gausta
– interview with Katarina Flatland

Katarina Flatland visits Gausta as often as she can, all year round. Although as a presenter for Idol Norway on TV2 she’s used to being in the spotlight and the heart of the action, she’s equally at home in the mountains.

After more than a decade as a presenter on Norway’s TV2, Katarina needs no introduction to Norwegian readers. And many of them will know she has strong feelings towards Gausta.

– I first visited Gausta in May 2006 when my dad brought me and my sister to the summit. I first encountered the majestic mountain and its surroundings on skis after taking the Gaustabanen railway up the slope. There was wall-to-wall sunshine, so all I needed to wear was a t-shirt, Katarina reminisces.

Katarina Flatland loves the nature and the silence Gausta offers.

Visits Gausta all year round

Katarina’s first visit led to many more, and today she visits Gausta as often as she can, in both summer and winter.

– We come here mainly for some peace and quiet and to unwind from a hectic day-to-day life in Oslo. I prefer to visit with my family to get that wonderful cosiness in the cottage that I so long for.

“It’s great that more and more people are opening their eyes to this place!”

A place for adventure

As a child and teenager, Gausta was the place where Katarina found adventure, enjoying slalom and cross-country skiing, cycling, and hiking.

– I loved all the times we went up to the summit and enjoyed the view best of all. The excitement never waned, she says.

Right after the wedding

Over the years, Katarina has increasingly appreciated the surrounding area and the excursions on offer, such as the boat trip on Hardangervidda and fishing at Mogen Turisthytte.

– Gausta means so much to me and my family. Eight years ago I introduced Gausta to my husband and together we’ve become so transfixed by the area that we spent the days after our wedding here in the summer of 2018, says Katarina.
