From Oslo: Gausta is a 183 km drive from Oslo, approximately 2.5 hours. On your way you pass the cities Drammen and Kongsberg. The last bit of the road leading to Rjukan is called FV37.
From Gardermoen airport: From Gardermoen it is 232 km to Gausta when you drive via Oslo. Expect a 3.5 hour drive depending on traffic. From Oslo drive towards Drammen and then Kongsberg before taking Fv37 towards Rjukan.
From Oslo Torp (Sandefjord): Gausta is 173 km from Sandefjord. Take the E18 towards Tønsberg, where you change to Fv312 towards Kongsberg, before taking FV37 towards Rjukan. In the summertime it’s possible to drive via Tuddal, not always during the snow season.
Express buses to Rjukan depart daily from Oslo, Porsgrunn and Skien.
The closest international airport is Oslo Lufthavn (Gardermoen) 232 km from Gausta. To get to Gausta you can rent a car or use a coach service to Rjukan (several departures each day). From Rjukan there’s a free shuttle bus up the mountain to Gausta during the high season.
Sandefjord airport (Oslo Torp) is 173 km away. Daily coach service to and from Rjukan.
